Michigan State University business professor Russell Johnson recently co-authored a study estimating that the workplace incivility has doubled in the last 20 years, costing companies an average of $14,000 annually per employee in lost production and work time.
We’ve all likely seen just how much impact even one rude, negative, or just plain not-nice person can have on a workplace, a social group, and yes, on a college admissions process. Here are two productive steps to immunize yourself from the effects from one bad apple and their behavior.
1. You can consciously ignore, shun, delete and otherwise remove that person and their negativity from your space.
2. You can channel the opposite behavior, and bring as much positivity, compassion, and otherwise good vibes to your friends, family, and co-workers. I’ve written two past posts, here and here, with some ideas.
There’s plenty of room on college campuses for students who bring so much positivity that they make everyone else better.
