On October 12, 2009, I changed from blogging sporadically to writing at least one entry a day, every day. I wanted to see what would happen if I committed to doing it, and how long I could keep it up. Today is my 1,000th daily post (in a row).
What's happened since I started? Today, if you google "should i take the SAT again?", my post is the first result. Search for "how to fill out the common application activities section," and there’s another post of mine. I don’t think that any amount of Google advertising could have brought as much traffic to me and to Collegewise as sharing and building an audience has.
People ask me how I think of something to write every day. It’s a hard habit to start, but a harder one to break. The truth is that whether you’re a counselor, a photographer, or a butcher, you’ve probably got a lot to say about what you do and how you do it. And someone out there will be interested. That’s the beauty of the Internet. Share enough good information and people will eventually find you.
I plan to keep at the daily blogging as long as I feel I have something to say and to contribute. For the 1,000th entry, here are my ten most popular posts (based on the number of page views). If you’re new to the blog, these entries have resonated with people and might be good places to start.
Thanks to everyone for reading.
