Before you ask a teacher for extra credit, consider what you have (or haven’t) done to deserve that gift.
- Have you shared with your teacher that you’re not happy with your performance and expressed a sincere desire to improve?
- Have you consistently done the work it takes to earn the grade you want?
- Have you sought help with the material you’re struggling with?
- Have you been the kind of respectful, engaged student a teacher enjoys having in class?
- Are you addressing this problem early enough to actually fix it, or are you waiting until the last minute and hoping the extra credit will make the difference?
The best way to get extra credit is to earn it with extra effort.
