When you describe your roles, can you finish a sentence that begins, “I’m the one who…”
For example:
“On the hockey team, I’m the one who’d rather make a great pass than score.”
“In my math class, I’m the one who helped the kid who was flunking.”
“In my drama club, I’m the one who isn’t afraid to take a smaller role if it feels like the best part for me.”
“In my band, I’m the one who finds gigs where we can play.”
“On the school newspaper staff, I’m the one everyone turns to for editing help.”
It’s a good way to test whether or not you’re making a real impact or just passively participating. And it’s a good way to stand out in your college applications.
