This week’s entry on the University of Virginia’s blog includes a video of families helping their kids from the UVA class of 2018 move into their new dorms. It’s full of kids and parents who, while sad to say goodbye, are happy and excited about their kids’ upcoming college adventures.
What it doesn’t mention is:
1. When they were applying, some of those kids wanted to go to other schools more than they did UVA.
2. On move-in day, nobody is thinking about #1. And that is true no matter what college’s dorms the new freshmen are moving into.
Parents, look forward to that day. And don’t worry so much about whether or not the college you move your kids into will be prestigious. It won’t matter once you—or they—get there.
