Many of our Collegewise counselors are attending and presenting at the regional NACAC affiliate conferences. Every time I attend, I’m reminded how generous counselors and admissions officers are with their colleagues. Every session and even informal exchanges during off hours seems to involve sharing of knowledge, tips or materials.
Here’s a resource I created for my students.
Here’s a great website that helps me at work.
Here’s something I tried that worked well during admissions season.
Here’s a document I use to track letters of recommendation.
Here’s something I learned at the last session you might find interesting.
There’s no sense of competition and no hoarding of information. At the core, everyone is there to help kids, whether their own or someone else’s.
Sharing like that works in any club, organization or profession. Whether you’re a student in the Red Cross Club, a parent running a PTA, or a private counselor building a business, if you’ve learned or created something useful, don’t keep it to yourself. Share it. You’ll build good will and leave a legacy that will remain long after you’ve moved on to something else.
