Today, I’m excited to welcome Rebecca Putter, our newest member of the Collegewise family and the director of our soon-to-be-opened office in Austin, Texas.
It’s not easy to find someone who has both the background to counsel kids and the smarts, spirit and special brand of panache to fit in well here at Collegewise. It’s even harder to find someone who also has experience opening and running a small business, but we found the perfect mix in Rebecca. While attending NYU and studying politics, Rebecca worked for a small test prep company. When she moved to Austin to get her masters in higher education at UT, the company hired her to open an Austin branch. From finding office space, to getting speaking gigs, to enrolling and taking great care of customers, Rebecca has done it all before. That entrepreneurial experience will serve her well here.
While spending the last year as the pre-law advisor and career coach at UT Austin’s Liberal Arts Career Office, Rebecca also worked as an intern for a local private counselor where she took on her own caseload of students. It’s surprising that she found the time to do both, as Rebecca spends seemingly all of her free time running, spinning, and constantly trying the newest, most physically demanding local fitness programs. She is also a gluten-free pescatarian who I’m guessing is on track to live for approximately 139 years.
Over-achieving seems to have always been a habit for Rebecca. She was not only valedictorian of her class, but also the lead sales associate for four consecutive years at her local American Eagle Outfitters. Her impressive academic ways continued throughout college and graduate school. I won’t share her collegiate GPA here but let’s just say it’s nearly double mine.
Rebecca will be joining Katie Konrad Moore and I (along with 4-6 fellow new trainees) in Seattle for training later this month. But her first official day at Collegewise is today in Austin. I hope there’s a gluten-free pescatarian restaurant or food truck nearby. But if not, Rebecca will likely just open her own.
So, say hi to Rebecca and welcome her to Collegewise.
P.S. To my college buddy, Austin cardiologist, and loyal blog reader, Shane, you know where to send those fellow MDs looking for smart, sane college planning for their kids.
