High school families, it’s worth noting that none of the college freshmen who are home for the holidays are still smarting from the colleges that said no. They’re talking about what is, not what might have been.
Listen to what they have to say. Most will probably be raving about their experiences. If pressed, they’ll probably admit that their colleges aren’t perfect. Nothing that significant ever is. But they manage around the imperfections and embrace the rest. That’s a learned skill that can be applied to colleges, jobs, relationships, kids and just about anything else worth having in our lives.
Also worth noting that none of their parents are saying, “We’d be more excited for our college freshman to come home if she were returning from an Ivy League school.”
