Breanne shared this article with us from the New York Times about colleges turning away applicants because of inappropriate Tweets or Facebook posts. This is one of those realities that I've noticed many students are unwilling to accept. No, colleges don't necessarily have formal policies that encourage admissions officers to look for you online. But does it happen? All the time. If you're going to tweet, post, tag, or otherwise exist online, make sure you'd be OK with a college seeing it. And lock down your privacy settings on any social media accounts so you can control who sees what.
