Last year, I wrote an entry about a former YouTube user, mjsokes, who’d earned millions of views for his videos that taught people how to play songs by The Beatles on guitar. My point was that by simply sharing what he knew, he earned a loyal following of fans around the world, fans who were crushed when he deleted his videos.
Two great pieces of news:
1. mjsokes is back! Let all of us fans rejoice!
2. A few months ago, mjsokes sent me an email. He’d stumbled across the blog post and wanted to reach out to share some insight into who he was and what that YouTube channel had done for him.
It turns out that mjsokes was in high school when he originally made all those videos. He got admitted to some highly-selective colleges and today is a happy and successful law student.
He offered up some advice to high school students which I’ll share here.
"To sum things up, my advice on high
school is this – make damn well sure you're enjoying what you're doing. 'Passion' is a word that's easily interchangeable with 'fun.' Don't be
dismissive of a hobby – embrace it, try to make something of it. Not
only will it help you get through the day; it'll change your life. Trust
me."
Good advice, mj.
