Question I got from a parent today:
Do you have any advice about how I can build good relationships with my son’s high school teachers? He struggles academically and I want to make sure he gets enough attention.
My answer:
Help your son develop his own relationships with his teachers. It’s good for parents to be engaged in your kids’ educations. But the best way to help your son succeed academically is to encourage him to ask questions, to seek additional help when he needs it, and to advocate for himself, not to wait for you to do it for him.
High school kids need to learn these skills before they go to college and out into the real world. The change can be a gradual one, but the process needs to start now.
