When applying to college, a lot of students express their big plans for the next four years. They’ll tell interviewers or write essays about how much they want to:
- Help people
- Learn about business
- Get involved in student leadership
- Meet people from different cultures
- Take advanced mathematics courses
- Play club soccer
- Study abroad
- Take the first step towards medical school
- Find their passions and discover what they’re good at
Those are all entirely appropriate goals for college. But what steps are you taking now to show that interest? Don’t just tell a college you’re interested in business. Take a summer school class, or get an internship, or enroll in an online course (MIT, Harvard and Stanford offer them for free).
Big plans are for later. Take your first steps now.
