Early action is an admission option some colleges offer in which high school seniors apply by early November and in return, the college gives you a decision by mid December. Unlike the early decision option offered by some schools, an acceptance is not binding, and unless a college specifically states otherwise (like this one), you may apply to as many early action schools as you would like.
Selecting a decision plan is important enough to talk over with your high school counselor who knows you and your situation, but we generally advise that our Collegewise students only apply to an early action school if we believe they have a good chance of being accepted (we call these “Target” or “Safety” schools). Otherwise, we suggest they apply under the regular option.
When you apply to an early application program, an admissions decision will be made before the college sees your grades from the first semester of your senior year. If you’re not confident of your chances of admission, why not give yourself one more semester to show colleges what you’re really capable of? Have the best semester of your life, show them the results, and then let them make a decision.
Yes, the acceptance rates for early applicants are sometimes higher. But nothing improves your chances more than improving your qualifications does.
